PRESS STATEMENT:
From APC, Plateau State
DEFECTION: ‘TO BE’ OR ‘NOT TO BE.’
What now seems to be in the minds and lips of functionaries of the Plateau State government, is Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s purported defection, to be or not to be.
The defection “news” has been elevated to State affair,to the extent that it has taken the center stage of governance, thereby creating unnecessary tension and anxiety in the polity.
Regrettably, there is nothing of importance to the PDP led administration nowadays, like Governor Mutfwang’s drive to political safe haven, which of course the APC,is considered to be the final “bus stop.”
More regrettably, is the fact that, governance has been relegated, resources and energy misdirected at a wild goose chase – all at the expense of the ordinary Plateau man and woman.
On good account, the Governor’s handlers, a select senior government functionaries as well as fortune seekers and some PDP turncoats have been forum-shopping for the helmsman to politically survive beyond 2027.
Consequently, almost on a daily basis, rumours filtering out from Little Ray field, are strategies of dealing with imaginary opposition towards Governor Mutfwang achieving his vile objective.
This unfortunate scenario has caused discerning minds to note that, since the Governor presented the 2026 appropriation bill to the House of Assembly a forth night ago, there has never been any reasonable and impactful government activity, apart from the just concluded Christmas Carol in the State.
As a matter of fact, state activities have been foreshadowed by the troubling anxiety and constant changing of dates for the ceremonial defection of the Governor to the point that, confusion and suspicion is now the order of the day in the government.
From the 13th; 15th of last month and now deferred to 16th of December this year, the government and it’s sheepish supporters are enveloped with the euphoria of receiving approval from “The Top” to join the APC.
It is sad that, rather than the PDP led government showcasing and allowing its records of achievements, walk the talk,it is constrained to reducing itself into a gate-crasher.
At this juncture it is worth mentioning that if the PDP led government had pursued infrastructure development with the same vigour and seriousness like it presently considering Governor Mutfwang’s defection to the APC, Plateau State could have been better of, than what it is today.
Furthermore, if the Governor had performed creditably well in the last two years, ,he would have been the most sought after by Political parties and not the other way round as well as safe the State the hullabaloo, resources and energy wasted in pursuit of the much trumpeted detection.
On the flip side, the APC both at the National and State levels is unaware of the taunted defection or move to join the Party by the Governor.

Shittu Bamaiyi,
