Ahead of the Yuletide celebrations, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has warned individuals, event planners, associations, and religious or corporate bodies against blocking roads before, during, or after festive activities.
TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, issued the warning in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Akinbiyi said the advisory became necessary following repeated disregard for other road users by some individuals, community groups, street revellers, and organisers of social or religious events—acts that often lead to avoidable gridlock and hardship for motorists and residents.
He stressed that major and inner streets belonged to the public and must not be converted into party venues, meeting points, or recreation centres under any guise.
“As we celebrate, we must be sensitive about our actions. No individual, association, or religious body has the right to obstruct or block major or inner streets for any social or religious activity,” he said.
“It is wrong because such obstruction will certainly disrupt the free movement of vehicles and people, causing untold hardship to motorists, residents and others.”
The agency also directed owners of event centres, lounges, and clubs—particularly in densely populated areas such as Ijebu-Ode, Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ota, Ifo, Akute, Mowe-Ibafo, Ikenne and surrounding communities—to ensure adequate parking arrangements for their patrons to prevent congestion and indiscriminate roadside parking.
