Abducted Kaduna Anglican priest, Rev. Edwin Achi, has been confirmed killed by his abductors, the Anglican Communion Diocese of Kaduna announced on Thursday.
Rev. Achi, who served at Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero, Chikun Local Government Area, was abducted on October 28 when armed men stormed his residence in Nissi village, near the Kaduna Refinery. His wife, a customs officer, and their daughter were also kidnapped during the attack.
Days after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded a N600 million ransom for the release of the victims.
The Diocese described the cleric’s killing as a devastating blow to the church and the wider community.
Church leaders have urged security agencies and the Kaduna State Government to intensify efforts to rescue those still in captivity and strengthen measures to curb rising insecurity across the state.
Security authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.
